1958 was the final year of Packard production. 588 or so 1958 Packard Hawks were built, and they were essentially a Studebaker Golden Hawk with a fiberglass front end and a modified deck lid with a faux spare tire mount. The nose of the Packard was redesigned, affectionately nicknamed the ‘vacuum-cleaner’ or ‘catfish’ nose, with its wide, low grill opening, sloping nose and hood reminiscent of the 1953 Studebakers. A bulgey scoop atop the hood similar to a Golden Hawk to accommodate the McCulloch supercharger giving the rebuilt factory Studebaker 289 V8 a total of 275 horses running through a rebuilt Borgwarner 3spd automatic, and “Twin-Traction” (limited-slip differential) rear end. The interior is upholstered in tan leather, detailed with full instrumentation and engine-turned dash trim. Other factory options include electric windows, power seats, radio, power steering and power brakes. The trunk carries a spare, tools and a tire jack. The 1958 Packard Hawk, the last of the Packard legacy, are fast becoming highly prized and collectible classics. This stunning black freshly restored Packard Hawk is fun to drive and sure to win trophies at any high end car show.
