The Porsche 914 series was first introduced in 1969 and was offered in two versions. The entry level Volkswagen 80hp 4cylinder model with small VW brakes and 4 lug wheels, or as a 6 cylinder with the potent 911 motor, suspension, brakes and wheels. This was Porsche’s first attempt at a mid-engine production car aimed at the mass market. They were an alternative to the more expensive 911 models. The 914 was engineered and built in a joint effort with Volkswagen and sold in Europe as a “Volks-Porsche”, however for the purposes of the US market they were badged as a Porsche and sold through Porsche franchise dealers. The moderate priced 4 cylinder out sold the 914-6 by a wide margin. With less than 4000 914-6’s built over a two year span, they are highly prized and sought after. This Irish green 914-6, serial #9140431023, is a true “Barn Find. Purchased new by the original owner back in 1970, and then parked 1973. Discovered in a garage in 2012, this car is showing just over 5000 miles on the odometer. All the mechanicals and cosmetics were restored to stock condition. The 914-6 before is one of the few examples of an original unrestored survivors in the US today. Books, records and pictures tell the story. This rare 1970 Porsche 914 is must for the true Porsche connoisseur.
