The Porsche Speedster is the most iconic Porsche of all times. Popularized in movies and owned by celebrities like James Dean and Clark Gable. By 1958 speedster sales were slowing down, so the powers to be at Porsche decided to revamp the little car. By changing to a full windscreen, redesigning the convertible top assembly, adding roll-up windows and conventional seats, the character of the little car was transformed to a more practical daily driver. Only 1,330 or so Convertible D’s were made for the 1959 model year, and therefore holds the distinction as being one of the rarer production Porsche 356 models built. This 356 Convertible D has quite an austere stance, sort of “Outlaw” style. Outlaw referring to a non-factory, non-conforming look or appearance; it’s an attitude among 356’ers. The car has been repainted blue and the deco strips, side spears and bumper guards deleted. Other noticeable modifications include an aftermarket sport exhaust, Talbot style side racing mirror and a Derrington style aftermarket steering wheel. All factory parts included. According to the Kardex, the car was ordered originally in Ruby Red, reclining seats and a short ratio speedster transaxle. The engine may not be original to the car but it runs out fine.  There are three versions of the pyramid 3-gauge dash cars, Speedsters, Convertible D’s and Roadsters. Convertible D’s are highly sought after and have tremendous upside.
